Funingpu explains the collagen in gelatin

When it comes to gelatin, many people may feel that they have not been exposed to such substances, but this is not the case. Gelatin is a frequent visitor in our lives. It is found in many of our foods in the form of additive gelatin, commonly found in gummies, ice cream, marshmallows, etc., most of which are made from additive gelatin. In addition, it contains collagen.

The main component of edible gelatin is hydrolyzed collagen, usually from porcine skin or cowhide bone. In some preliminary studies, hydrolyzed collagen was found to reduce pain caused by bone and joint (joint wear and tear). However, this finding was not confirmed in an independent study in 2012, and it is not clear for other symptoms such as joint stiffness and swelling.

The scientific basis for the possible joint benefits is that collagen supplements are rich in peptides and amino acids (glycine, proline and hydroxyproline) that produce collagen in the cartilage of the joints. The other two types of collagen allowed to be sold are more virgin collagen and edible gelatin, which are derived from collagen but are not degraded compared to enzymatically hydrolyzed collagen.

Although collagen, edible gelatin or hydrolyzed collagen must be degraded during digestion to absorb amino acids, experiments in mice have shown that the absorption rate of hydrolyzed proteins is higher because of their smaller molecules. As you can see, edible gelatin is rich in collagen.
